More about Jitsi Meet
Jitsi Meet is an open-source video communication system that can be used in the browser or with a (free) app (Apple App Store / Google Play Store). Jitsi was awarded the highest rating in a recent study (end of April 2020) by the Mozilla Foundation: https://foundation.mozilla.org/de/privacynotincluded/products/jitsi-meet.
High Image and Sound Quality
Thanks to Opus Audio, the sound quality is particularly high. However, the image and sound quality are highly dependent on the participants’ internet connection. For this, Jitsi has a particularly good method to dynamically adapt the quality to the actual connection. You can find more about the Opus audio format here.
Easy to Use
Jitsi Meet starts easily in the browser and requires no software installation (for mobile users, there is a free app). Usage is simple for both the organizer and the participant – invitations are also conveniently sent via a link that can be shared by email or instant messenger.
Security Out of the Box
On the one hand, individual rooms can be protected with a password from unwanted participants. On the other hand, the connection between participants can be encrypted. A practical indicator shows each participant whether the connection is currently encrypted or not.
Share Screen
With one click, you can share your screen, or possibly just an application window or screen section. It is particularly practical that the person sharing the screen can still transmit their own image. This is helpful for commenting on documents, as participants do not have to stare at a potentially static image.
Watch YouTube Videos Together
Just as easily as sharing the screen, a YouTube video can be distributed as a shared stream so that all participants can follow the video together.
Custom Logo
As a provider of video calls, it is naturally desirable to adapt the application’s interface to the company’s corporate identity. This includes, among other things, integrating your own logo.
SIP Support
Jitsi originated in the XMPP and SIP world. If desired, the Jitsi instance can be extended with SIP to support VoIP. Contact us.
Frequently asked questions
Do participants need an account or an app?
No. Jitsi Meet runs in the browser (WebRTC). A click on the invitation link is enough – no registration required. Optional iOS/Android apps are available for mobile devices.
Can I record or stream meetings?
Yes. A recording/streaming service (e.g., Jibri in self-hosting) allows calls to be recorded locally on the server or streamed live to platforms like YouTube. Practical for webinars, training, and events.
Is Jitsi as easy to use as Zoom?
Yes—for most meetings, even easier: click the link, enter your name, allow camera/mic, done. No installation, no account needed. The operation is familiar (mute, camera, screen sharing, chat, raise hand). As a host, you create a room, share the link, and can optionally activate a password/lobby. For very large webinars, Zoom has more specialized functions; for everyday meetings, Jitsi is “click & meet.”
