Federation via ActivityPub
Each instance is independent and can follow other instances, channels, or accounts. Content thus spreads decentrally through the Fediverse, without central platform dependency – you retain data sovereignty and can specifically expand your reach through federation relationships.
P2P-supported Streaming (WebTorrent/WebRTC)
Viewers share video data with each other during playback, which significantly reduces server load. Especially during peaks (launch, press, live event), delivery scales more efficiently and cost-effectively, without immediately having to purchase additional bandwidth.
Live Streaming with RTMP Ingest
Stream via OBS, Streamlabs & Co. directly to your instance; PeerTube generates adaptive HLS streams for different bandwidths. Live streams can be archived, provided with thumbnails, descriptions, chapters, and comments – ideal for events, lectures, or community formats.
Strong Moderation & Security

How does PeerTube scale with many simultaneous viewers?
PeerTube uses WebTorrent (P2P) directly in the browser: viewers share video data with each other, relieving the server. Fallback via HLS/Progressive Download is possible. Optional: external object storage (e.g., S3), transcoding queues, CDN or cache proxy pre-connection, and P2P finely configurable (or deactivatable) per video/instance.
Who sees my videos – how does federation work?

You control visibility with federation allow/deny lists, instance blocks, and video privacy (public, unlisted, private, password-protected, possibly local only). Discoverability, for example, via SepiaSearch and subscribing instances.
